‘We dint kill em ‘ard enuff’

I think the first game of apocalypse we played was a definite learning experience. A lot of mistakes were made, and I believe our main mistake was not thinking about objectives but rather killing the enemy. I was fully expecting the stompa to rampage around the imperial lines leaving very little for the reserves to clear up. Unfortunately with nothing else to shoot at the imperials hit it with all they had and it didnt survive very long.

Next time i think the stompa needs to be used from longer range and have other juicy targets around it to aid its survivability (although I dont think Ju will be able to roll only 6’s on the vehicle damage table!). I will probably also go with the mek stompa or find rules for a kustom stompa that allows you to take shields.

Looking forward to having another game, although might be good to try and play a scenario rather than just a straight apocalypse battle

Game was great fun, but definitely a big learning experience as you said!

The Baneblade was awesome, but like the stompa I think it’s main advantage is it’s enormous battlecannon, rather than all the other weapon systems it has plastered around it – these super heavies seem better suited to holding far behind the front line, than leading from the front where they just get shot by anything and everything in range.

Can’t wait to play another game, having learnt from this experience it’ll be a much more interesting game.

I always love the idea of playing around a scenario, rather than just straight battles, but the scenario has to be well thought out and I must admit I thought the shear scale of apocalypse games tends to build it’s own stories!

Maybe we should look at the “battle reports” in the apocalypse book and see if we can build something in a similar fashion.

I really wanted to use the stompas close combat weapon on the baneblade, but it just didnt get there. Incidently, what are the odds of rolling 4 sixes in a row on a damage table? :)

I uploaded all my unsorted photos here – http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/rob.has.s … ndMay2010#

Certainly a valuable learning experience. I’d like to so something similar again, but also some interesting scenarios (probably smaller, even a lot smaller).

I did think that I had replied a night or two ago, but apparently not?

I enjoyed the game and did appreciate that Ju & I were very lucky with rolls on the Stompa.
I think the main points for improving the ork performance were:
– playing IG with their masses of HWs! (all concentrating on the stompa then the next threats)
– picking Anti-plant and not Flanking Attack

I was slightly bemused with your orginaly plan; however I soon understood your reasoning and it made total/more sense.
I think holding the stompa back would have been a waste. Its scorcha was amazing and its titan CCW would have swung the battle against the baneblade.

Now we had done a vanilla game we can now create a scenario: tweak the forces, fix asset cards for each side, etc

Can’t wait for the next one!

Oh! JHave also just seen that Jervis J has also publish 2 new scenarios (primarily for Orks vs Imperial). Log onto GW site, WD and New Scenarios.

One with a super-heavy which is up for grabs in the centre of the board and one which a Stompa has to make it to the other end (nearly as per Pete’s suggestion last weenend)!

I like the super heavy objective. Works well with orks and IG fighting over a baneblade. It could easily be used as a run up game to a larger battle.

The Stompa scenario is, as they say, a bit more of a mini game but would be fun. Possibly use the two scenarios to determine when super heavies turn up in a apoc game?
