I heard that Ju, ROb & Pete had a evening playing a couple of games. Relatively quick (about an hour to an hour and a half!).

Can one of you give us the low down?

It was an excellent evening. Everyone seemed to enjoy the games. We played two, both around an hour to an hour and a half long. Pretty action-packed, relaxed and enjoyable :)

The first mission was, I believe, the third campaign mission. Two Space Marine squads (Julian and Pete) attempt to link up and escape with a malfunctioning C.A.T. Initial Marine moves seemed confident and the plan sound. Whilst the Squads were pushing forward, covering key passageways, the Genestealers were mustering behind doors and corners. As the Marines neared the centre of the board the ‘Stealers pounced, systematically picking off hapless Marine after hapless Marine. As soon as it started it was over. Memorable moments included the Assault Cannon scything through advancing Genestealers, running out of ammunition at the critical moment. Also the Heavy Flamer standing at a T-junction and firing three shots down each of the connecting corridors.

The second mission was the first in the campaign. Julian took the Marines and launched a confident and very assertive assault, blasting paths and firing arcs through closed doors. In no time the Marines were almost on the objective, and the Genestealers were struggling to get close enough without exposing themselves. With time seemingly running out the Genestealers launched their attack, but it was piecemeal and ragged. The long corridors of fire the Marines had opened up allowed the alien scum to be picked off at a distance with ease. It was an excellent victory for the Marines, and just goes to show that Space Hulk isn’t completely biased against the Marines!

I look forward to playing more in future.

We did have a great evening! Cheers rob for the fish and chips!

I think the most important factor that came out of the evening is that when the marines know what to do they have a far better chance of being effective. I knew from the first time I played the suicide mission scenario that I had to get into that top passage quickly or I’d be overwhelmed. So in future I’d certainly give the marine player a good bit of time to consider their mission and how to approach it.

Just been playing a couple of games of SH with my brothers. This time the SMs whooped the Genestealers!

Basically openning up arcs of fire by shooting down every door! Then racing to the objective. The Stealers didn’t have enough time or blip counters to mass and overwelm, plus the long corridors to negoiate before getting into combat

Good and very quick anyhow. Will have to play some the of the 2 team, 2 level missions later next year.

It’s crazy how the SMs now seem to be winning loads?! I’m not sure if we just did a couple of easy-ish missions, or we just nailed SM tactics a bit more, but the stealers really seemed to struggle a lot.

I’m looking forward to trying again and seeing if we can work on stealer tactics some more..

I’d like to think we have general SM tactics well established. Essentially cover and concealment is not the friend of the SM, you want long and wide arcs of fire. SM shooting is surprisingly effective when you’re rolling multiple dice again and again and again.

Sometime this week I’ll try and sit down and play a solitaire game of SH. I’m sure we can develop some more effective tactics for the Genestealers. It has to involve committing forces early to delay the advancing SM, while also gathering forces nearer the objective for a later strike. I’ll let you know how I get on. Perhaps even produce a rough and ready battle report?

I think the stealers are a bit more involved than their basic rules suggest, so i think it’ll be hard to play “honest”.

Will be interesting to see how you get on.
