The Mantic Blog has a post by Guy Haley about creating the fantasy world behind their Kings of War game. Thought it might interest one or two in its discussion of drawing on the world of Tolkien, but still stamping its own identity.

That is a fascinating little insight. I’d be interest ed to read the background. I hope its got a decent mechanic to back it up

Really interesting post, cheers rob!

Stuff like this gets my enthusiasm up for things. Looking forward to some gaming soon and maybe having a go at the mantic rules.

Just skimmed the electronic rulebook which has been distributed to Kickstarter backers. The rulebook looks good, I can’t wait for the hardcopy! Things seems pretty well arranged within the book and a fairly sizeable fluff section right at the front.

Read the fluff section in a sunny garden with a beer. A enjoyable read with a lot of familiar themes (bitter insular Dwarves, fragile but noble Elves etc). Some of the style of writing grated; I though the punctuation was a little off at times…but what would I know?! They’ve certainly succeeded in keeping the world open enough to allow it to evolve, whilst setting those initial themes.
