I’ve heard rumours that GW is releasing a one-off naval game in October. Obviously people are immediately speculating that it’ll be MoW. I’ll be curious to see what ultimately arrives.

Well it’s now Here…!

Dreadfleet

Obviously it looks great, especially the mat, scenary etc but I don’t like the look that your fleet would comprise if several totally unique ‘capital ships’. For the price of £70-odd I think I will resist this ‘Limited Edition’ game as you could not expand with other fleets (though some of the ships do look great).

It looks rubbish and aimed at young children.

I agree. Nothing really tempting there.

They (GW) also dare not mention the inspiration as MoW (read yesterday’s blog thingie-bob on their site).

A few of the ships look great (empire/human,dwarf & some of the evil ships) + comes with good looking scenery & mat + (I assume) simple rules, but the scale is all wrong & you don’t have your own race/fleet. Managed to resist (fairly easily).

I guess the mat and terrain looks cool. I really despise GW more and more as time goes by…

Seeing the messages on the Sea of Claws Yahoo group I’d be less than sure about the terrain. Some have commented that the islands have a lot of skulls sculpted into them. Yeh GW really doesn’t care about their customers. Have you heard about how they’ve restricted independent (online) retailers trading outside Europe and the US? GW can now sell the same product at MUCH inflated prices elsewhere, such as Australia and Canada.

Whilst we’re not interested in purchasing Dreadfleet an interesting read is here – http://quirkworthy.com/2011/10/03/dread … irst-game/

It has a good overview of the rules and details the first scenario. There are also linked posts on unboxing the game, and assembling the ships. However most interesting was the conclusion…

“…it seems to me to be an OK game, but not a great one. I’m not convinced it’s worth the price.”

I’ve read reports that Dread Fleet did not sell well (niche area and very high price?). Perhaps not unsurprisingly GW is concealing this by, reportedly, pulling unsold boxes from stores. Apparently in the past GW has done this (?!) they’ve sold stock onto The Works. I’ll have to keep my eye out for developments because if the price is right…
